1999-2003 was an interesting time in the Salt Lake City independent music archive. At that time you played shows at the Zephyr Club, The Safari Club, DV8 basement, Ichabob’s, The Holy Cow, and the Hard Rock at Trolley Square. Some of these facilities still exist but most places have new names and ownerships.

The Issue Records started around this time and mostly for the sake of a band called White City who started out with members: Tige Campbell, Jared Russell, and brothers Ben and Dan Lloyd. White City evolved over the next 4-5 years in their line up, musical genre, and band titles but always had a unique and intimidating dark core sound.

During this period, the music community in Salt Lake was pretty united from the Hip Hop Mc’s and DJ’s to the punk and Indie-rock guys to Reggae and Dub musicians. There was a lot of talent and it seemed that everyone knew each other. Some groups and individuals have remained in Salt Lake, some have since moved on to other regions of the earth, some have moved on and have come back. The Universe is a perpetual twisting of ellipses in metaphor as well as reality.

The content in the Issue Classic pages reflects the people and music that the Issue Records of this period was involved in, in any capacity. From Logiking to Utah Slim, the Issue has always tried to get involved and support artists in their efforts to spread the message of their respective projects. We have a wider scope and more modern tools in the belt of the Issue now, so keep an eye out for new Issue releases as well as previously unreleased limited availabilities of Issue Classic projects of the future.
